Electrodes: 

As shown in the picture above, electrodes are generally made commercially by the manufacturers of TENS units for medical use and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. These pads may or may not contain a sticky tack substance on one side to attach to the skin. They are re-usable a few times and after a few uses must be discarded. Although they serve a purpose, they are not recommended for durability and long-term wear life. This type of electrode is basically made up of a small or medium sized pad that has a lead wire projecting from it connected to the pad itself. The end of this wire usually has a (female) TENS pin socket.  A male TENS pin from a lead wire carries the current to the pads from the TENS unit. The lead wire that plugs into the TENS (power) unit itself, actually has two wires wrapped together to give the appearance of a single wire and then splits off at the other end into separate male plugs, a (+) and a (-) . Once electrodes are secured to the skin surface, either with a tack gel substance or in the case of males, choosing to use the soft, comfortable conductive silicone flat strap or tubing secured with a rubber strap or Velcro, you are ready to begin.
